Clevr Blends Reviews

Are Clevr Blends Any Good?

Clever Blends aren't so smart

Clevr Blends is a supplement brand that creates products they claim can be a healthy alternative to your traditional morning coffee. They say that their products rival anything you will get from a coffee shop, while being organic, lab tested, vegan, non GMO, responsibly sourced, and containing no cane sugar.

They even suggest that each blend tastes amazing, has a creamy texture and great flavor, and is full of only beneficial ingredients that make it a perfect way to begin your morning. However, our review of the Clevr Blends' drinks suggests the lattes will not be able to offer the benefits that the brand says they do.

By far the most popular Clevr Blends product is the Chai Superlatte, which is made from Masala chai, ashwagandha, lion's mane extract, reishi extract, probiotics, oat milk, and coconut cream. It then also features monk fruit extract and a number of spices to give it its flavor and sweetness.

While many of these ingredients are indeed beneficial and would be very useful if put in regular lattes, the product has an abundance of issues that lead to this not being the case.

From having a much lower caffeine content than a normal latte, all of the ingredient quantities being hidden, and many of the ingredients visibly being present in quantities which are too low, to complaints from customers that the product does nothing at all, this chai latte simply fails in far too many ways.

There are a number of other Clevr Blends products, yet most use all of the same ingredients, but they swap chai out for one other, to try and change the effects. The Coffee Superlatte has fair trade coffee, the Matcha Superlatte has shade grown Japanese matcha, and the Golden Superlatte has turmeric.

The Rose Cocoa Superlatte swaps the lion's mane and probiotics for cacao, rose extract and MCT oils. The Mocha Superlatte swaps out the chai and probiotics for coffee, cacao, cinnamon and vanilla, while the Sleeptime Superlatte swaps them out for l-theanine and hops, passionflower and valerian extracts.

Finally, the London Fog Superlatte swaps out chai for black tea, bergamot oil, and Indonesian vanilla.

Unfortunately every Clevr Blends drink mix has the same issues as the Chai Superlatte, so none of them will offer any notable benefits. That is why we suggest you do not buy the Chai Superlatte or any other Clevr Blends latte mix.

Generally if you're looking for something like this we'd recommend looking for a good mushroom powder and mixing that with your morning coffee, you'll actually get the dosage for the ingredients to be effective and not mess with the taste too much. Premade mushroom coffees can be good too, but it's probably not a massive shock here that we say the same company that makes the best powder makes the same coffee blend. (We recommend you go check out Nootrum).

Or alternatively a decent greens powder, of course that isn't going to warm you the same way a coffee would, but they are going to have a lot more effective dosages of the relevant superfoods.

Clevr Blends Customer Reviews

The Clevr chai latte powder has an average user rating of 3.7 out of stars with past users on Amazon, which is fairly middling at best.

When looking at the positive reviews of the chai latte powder, virtually all of them mentioned liking its sweet, "delicious" taste, the ability to drink it with hot water or on ice, or that fact that it had a low caffeine content when compared to traditional lattes that you would get from a coffee shop.

And to weigh in on what we thought of the Clevr taste, that does seem to be wildly optimistic, and we expect these people didn't really like chai of coffee very much.

However, what was almost completely absent was any mention of how the Clevr chai latte affected things like their stress or energy levels when compared to traditional lattes or other hot drinks, regardless if they contain caffeine or are caffeine free.

When looking at the negative reviews, however, the theme was quite different.

Some did mention not liking the taste or finding the sweetness too overbearing, but there were also lots of mentions of it being lumpy and hard to mix, not even offering the beneficial effects that you'd get from a normal latte or caffeine drink, let alone anything else, and the company being hard to deal with.

This seems to support our initial conclusion, which is that the chai latte, Golden Superlatte or any other Clevr powder will do you no real good and may even be less useful than regular lattes, despite being far more expensive.

How Do Clevr Blends Taste?

Honestly, not great. We tried them in the office and whilst a couple of the girls thought they were alright, nobody really liked it all too much. I personally found it incredibly artificial and saccharine. I would not recommend. I also found it definitely didn't give me the same energy that a mushroom coffee does through the day. If I was comparing it to having nothing at all then maybe it would be an improvement, but definitely a downgrade from my go to, and a taste that will be far too artificial and sweetened for most. The Chai and Matcha superlattes we're poor. The coffee superlatte was admittedly a lot better, but at that point where comparing mushroom coffees, and Nootrum (which I know we keep harping on about) is just a lot better.

Clevr Blends Chai Superlatte Ingredients

Organic Masala Chai Tea

Masala Chai is a type of tea that is made from black tea leaves and created by brewing them in hot water and milk, making them sweet with sugar, and then adding a distinctive flavor with spices like black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, star anise, coriander, nutmeg, fennel and turmeric.

Black tea leaves have a natural caffeine content and can reduce inflammation and your blood sugar level, give you more energy, improve your focus, and help keep your gut healthy (1).

However, it will also boost your energy levels less than a traditional coffee or latte, while providing its other benefits to a lesser extent than unfermented teas like green tea, making it inferior to both. The useful spices like black pepper, ginger and turmeric are then present in doses too low to be of any use.

This means things are not looking great for one of the main ingredients of the Chai Superlatte before we even get to the fact that there is no mention of how much chai is actually present in each cup, which means we cannot possibly accurately determine the results that it will produce anyway.

Organic Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is a root extract made from the evergreen winter cherry plant that is recognised as a potent adaptogen.

It has the ability to help keep the brain and heart healthy, boost your testosterone levels, fertility, sexual functions, sleep quality, weight loss, physical performance, energy levels, mental clarity, memory, focus, mood, and muscle size and strength, and reduce stress, anxiety, and your blood sugar level (2).

The issue is, for ashwagandha to be able to offer any of its benefits, you need to consume at least two 300 mg servings every day. As we do not know exactly how much ashwagandha is present in each cup of the Chai Superlatte, it is therefore impossible for us to know if its inclusion will be of any use or not.

Its presence way down on the ingredients list does mean that it is quite likely an insufficient amount is present though.

Organic Lion's Mane Mushrooms

The lion's mane mushroom is a type of tooth fungus found in Asia, Europe and North America. One of the most popular and potent medicinal mushroom on Earth, it is also widely used in cooking, as it has a very unique, meaty taste and texture that allows it be used as a meat substitute in vegetarian dishes.

Lion's mane mushrooms contain numerous bioactive compounds and can boost your focus, blood flow, memory, mood, brain cell and nerve growth, concentration, brain health and functions, mental clarity, and immune health and functions, and prevent or treat brain fog, inflammation and mental decline (3).

Unfortunately, 1,000 mg of lion's mane mushroom extract is required to produce any of these effects. As we have no idea how much is contained in a glass of the Chai Superlatte, it is impossible to say if enough is present to be of any real use, while its position on the ingredients list makes it unlikely.

Organic Reishi Mushrooms

The reishi mushroom is a type of polypore fungus from the ganoderma family that is found in east Asia. It has long been used in many Chinese, Japanese and Korean traditional medicines, and is quickly becoming one of the most popular mushroom supplement ingredients.

Reishi mushrooms can boost your immune system, and brain health and functions, mood, sleep, stamina and strength, reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood glucose and blood pressure levels, and prevent or treat metabolic syndrome and some other chronic illnesses and the symptoms that they can cause (4).

The problem is, the reishi mushroom will only do any of this if you consume a minimum of 1,440 mg of either reishi mushrooms or reishi extract per day. As we have no idea how much is present in a glass of this Clevr Blend latte, it is impossible to tell if it will do you any good or not.

Yet again though, as one of the very last ingredients listed on the label, it is very unlikely that a useful dose has been included.

Probiotics

Probiotics are a type of healthy bacteria that live in the human gut, supporting its health and functions and ensuring digestion takes place efficiently. While the pack suggests multiple probiotics are present, a closer look at the small print will reveal that the mix only contains one, which is Bacillus Coagulans.

Admittedly one of the most beneficial probiotic bacteria you will find, it can promote a healthy gut and the growth of beneficial bacteria, and prevent gastrointestinal problems, such as functional intestinal gas symptoms, leaky gut syndrome, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)(5).

However, the suggested minimum dosage of a probiotic needed to see an effect is 6 billion CFU (colony forming units) per day, while it is also recommended that you use more than one strain of bacteria.

Its probiotic content is the only ingredient that we do actually know how much this Clevr blend contains, as it clearly states it includes 500 million probiotics.

Ignoring the fact that they don't even state what units this 500 million is in, we can clearly tell it is CFU, which means it is far less than the 6 billion required each day, so it will be of little use, if it provides any benefits at all.

Organic Oat Milk

Oat milk is a great plant based alternative to cow's milk and it is rich in b vitamins, minerals, fibre and protein. It can help reduce cholesterol levels and the risk of heart disease and improve the health of the gut, bones, skin, hair and nails.

The issue is, the effects that are conveyed to drinks that contain oat milk powder are far less than what you'll get from simply drinking warm oat milk by itself. Given that oat milk drinks are not very expensive, this makes its presence as the most abundant ingredient in the powder quite a waste of space (6).

Organic Coconut Cream

Coconut cream is virtually the same as coconut milk, it simply contains less water and has a thicker, creamier texture and stronger flavor. Both coconut products are high in various antimicrobials, antioxidants, electrolytes, and MCTs (medium chain fatty acids).

These nutrients provide useful effects, such as reducing inflammation and improving the health of the heart and digestive system. However, the cream is also full of calories, sugar, and saturated fats as well, which have been linked to various health problems, including heart disease and weight gain (7).

With no way of knowing exactly how much of the plant based cream is present in each cup of the latte powder, it is impossible to determine if it will have a positive or negative effect on your health.

Organic Monk Fruit Extract

Monk fruit extract is a zero calorie sweetener that is said to be up to 250 times sweeter than sugar, while also having antioxidant properties. This means not only can it help make the latte sweet, without using artificial sweeteners or sugar, but it can also benefit your health as well.

It is said to promote fat loss, reduce inflammation, prevent oxidative damage, help regulate blood glucose levels, and treat diabetes and various other health conditions (8). It must be mentioned though that most of these beneficial effects have yet to be proven.

Clevr Blends Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Contains a number of useful ingredients
  • Reasonably priced
  • Organic, vegan and GMO free

Cons

  • Does not appear to benefit your health in any way

Clevr Blends Review Conclusion

No matter if you try the Chai Superlatte, Golden Superlatte, Matcha Superlatte, Sleeptime Superlatte, Coffee Superlatte, or any other Clevr Blends latte mix, the recipes are simply not going to be capable of providing the benefits that the brand claims, and drinking them is not going to do you any real good.

From ingredients less useful that what you'd find in a regular latte and none of the ingredient quantities being listed, to reports that they do nothing at all, Clevr lattes seem to be nothing more than a waste of money.

We generally recommend that you save yourself a bit of money and just get a mushroom powder and add that to your coffee instead. (We rated Nootrum the number one option for this)
