The Center TRT presented a webinar on an intervention supporting the development of active transportation infrastructure. The Nashville Metropolitan Planning Organization's (MPO) Active Transportation Funding Policy is an innovative model for developing active transportation infrastructure. The MPO's Active Transportation Funding Policy includes two key elements: (1) dedicated funding for both active transportation infrastructure and education about active transportation and (2) the application of scoring criteria that incorporates active transportation indicators, which drives funding allocated for projects. The aim of the policy is to make it safer and more convenient for people to walk, bike and take transit.
The Nashville Area MPO's Active Transportation Funding Policy and the scoring criteria were adopted in December 2010. Since then, the MPO has continued to expand its work in active transportation.
