Om Master Blend is a mushroom superfood supplement made by the Om brand, which is based out of California and run by Doctor Sandra Carter and mycologist Steve Farrar. The top product that the company sell, it is certified organic, kosher, vegan, gluten free, and keto and paleo friendly.
The brand say it can provide a host of beneficial effects, including boosting vitality, immunity, energy and mental clarity, keeping the gut and brain healthy, and reducing stress. However, after conducting our own review, we have a hard time believing a number of the claims the company list on their website.
Om Master Blend is made with a proprietary blend of 10 organic mushrooms that includes lion's mane, cordyceps, king trumpet, turkey tail, maitake, reishi, chaga, shiitake, antrodia, and himematsutake mushrooms, as well as ashwagandha root extract.
While most of the mushrooms can indeed be very useful in supplements such as this, there are a couple that need more research to prove they benefit the human body in any way. There are then also some complaints from past users about things like a lack of efficacy and experiencing side effects as well.
The biggest problem with the product though, is the fact that virtually all of the proven mushrooms in the powder are present in such low doses that we can see the issue even through the proprietary blend, which means they will not be able to deliver the maximum effects that they are usually capable of.
The product is admittedly very reasonably priced and, in addition to traditional capsules, it is also sold in a choice of gummies or a protein or coffee mix, which some users say tastes good. This could make it an ok option for people who are shopping on a budget or have issues taking regular pills or capsules.
However, if you decide you want a supplement that is capable of safely providing the full range and level of effects that mushrooms can offer, you will need a much more potent set of extracts from your mushroom supplement if you're going to use such a small amount, and Nootrum Mushrooms is our recommended pick for just such a product, their extracts are substantially higher yeild as the focus on the particular lectins and polyphenols in mushrooms that actuall impact vitality, focus and immunity extracting just those and meaning you can in fact get a high enough dose, just not from Om Mushrooms. And we can actually say they were happy enough to provide us with their certificates of analysis (their third party test results) to confirm that they are in fact as potent as they say.
Om Master Blend holds an average review score of 4.4 out of 5 stars with past users on Amazon, which seems pretty good on the surface. In the positive reviews, people repeatedly write about it boosting their energy levels and focus, while at least one customer review mentioned that it made them calmer and their mind clearer as well. Most people also quite liked the powder taste.
When looking at the negative Om Mushroom reviews though, there are a lot of reviews which state that it did nothing for them at all. Or, counter to the earlier positive that they felt the powder and the capsules did not taste great. Which is to be expected with mushroom powders, some people are just not going to like it.
However it is more of an issue with the capsules which people regularly buy specifically to avoid the taste of mushroom powders. We can say that personally we didn't have this issue and it likely is as a result of poor packaging and delivery splitting some capsules and causeing the powder to coat others. But, we can't be sure how common a problem it is.
There was also more than one reviewer who mentioned experiencing side effects. These included nausea, headaches, diarrhoea, vomiting, rashes, irritability, tingling skin, panic attacks, trouble sleeping at night, and an inability to keep food down.
You put all of this together and it confirms our initial conclusion, which was that while the Om Master Blend may be able to provide some mildly useful effects, it is not particularly potent and certainly will not be right for everyone.
Organic Lion's Mane
Lion's mane mushrooms (Hericium Erinaceus) are a type of tooth fungus found in Asia, Europe and North America.
They are proven to boost your memory, concentration and focus, blood flow to the brain, brain cell growth, nerve growth factor, and brain and immune health and functions, and reduce or prevent inflammation, brain fog and cognitive decline (1).
It is possible that Om Master Blend contains enough lion's mane to deliver all of these benefits. However, being in a proprietary blend means we can't tell for sure, while the number of ingredients in said blend and its overall weight makes it a bit unlikely.
Cordyceps mushrooms (Cordyceps Militaris) are a type of parasitic fungus native to parts of Asia.
They can improve your heart, brain, testicle and immune health and functions, physical performance, and brain cell growth, reduce inflammation and the signs of aging, and combat health conditions such as arthritis, coughs, diabetes, diarrhoea, headaches, and even tumours.
Unfortunately, the dose present in Om Master Blend is a little on the low side, which means it will be unable to deliver any of these benefits to their full effect, if it can provide them at all (2).
Organic King Trumpet
King trumpet mushrooms (Pleurotus Eryngii) are a fungi and the largest species of oyster mushroom. A fairly unique carnivorous fungus, they eat insects and worms and are said to absorb many of the bioactive compounds and nutrients that they contain and pass them on to people who consume them.
This is said to enable them to boost your bone mineral density, immunity and vitamin d levels, prevent or treat anaemia, arthritis, osteoporosis and certain other medical issues, lower your cholesterol and blood pressure levels, keep the brain healthy and functional, and enhance your overall well being (3).
The problem is, there is little to no proof that they will actually provide any of these benefits, so their presence in the Om Master Blend formula may be of absolutely no use at all.
Organic Turkey Tail
Turkey tail mushrooms (Trametes Versicolor) are a type of polypore mushroom that is found worldwide and known to be rich in antioxidants and polysaccharide k.
It has been proven to help boost your gut and immune health and functions, promote effective digestion, and help combat a range of different medical conditions, such as type 2 diabetes (4).
However, this time we can see that there clearly will not be enough present in Om Master Blend to produce significant results, if it does anything at all.
Maitake mushrooms (Grifola Frondosa) are extremely popular and revered in Japan, but are widely found in Asia, North America, and even parts of Europe.
They are rich in a range of antioxidants, beta glucans, vitamins, and minerals, which enables them to reduce your blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels, boost the immune system, keep the brain healthy, and help treat a range of different chronic illnesses and medical conditions (5).
Yet again though, the dose of maitake present in Om Master Blend is too low for it to deliver any of these effects.
Reishi mushrooms (Ganoderma Lucidum) are a polypore fungus in the ganoderma family that is native to east Asia.
They are capable of boosting brain and immune system functions and health, providing stress relief, improving your mood, reducing blood sugar levels, and either preventing or treating certain chronic health conditions and illnesses, such as metabolic syndrome (6).
Unfortunately, being this far down in the Om Master Blend proprietary blend means there simply cannot be enough reishi extract present to be of any great use.
Chaga mushrooms (Inonotus Obliquus) are a type of fungus found on birch trees.
They are rich in melanin and various polyphenols, triterpenoids, and polysaccharides and can be helpful for keeping the gut healthy, boosting your immunity, reducing your blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and preventing or treating cell mutation, fatigue and range of different chronic illnesses (7).
Like with the last couple of mushrooms we have seen in Om Master Blend though, the amount of chaga powder present is going to be quite low, so a customer will not find it as helpful as it would normally be.
Shiitake mushrooms (Lentinula Edodes) are an edible mushroom and fungi native to East Asia that are high in vitamin d and various b vitamins.
They are helpful for both your brain and your body, as they can keep your brain and heart healthy and functional, promote weight loss, support sustained energy production, boost your immunity, and reduce inflammation (8).
With no official dosage set for the use of shiitake powder, this is a rare instance where a customer may be receiving an optimal dose of an effective ingredient by taking Om Master Blend. Unfortunately there is no way to no for sure one way or the other.
Antrodia mushrooms (Antrodia Camphorata) are a type of fungus that is among the most recently identified mushrooms, having only been discovered in 1995.
They are claimed to protect the liver, reduce inflammation and high blood pressure, combat abdominal pain, diarrhoea and certain chronic medical conditions, and even treat a hangover (9).
The problem is, with most studies on these mushrooms still in their infancy, it is impossible to know if their presence in the Om Master Blend formula will actually produce any of these effects.
Himematsutake mushrooms (Agaricus Blazei) is a species of mushroom that is known for its ability to help control food cravings, reduce stress and prevent emotional outbursts and physical weakness.
However, they can also boost your immunity, regulate your blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and treat issues like alopecia, arthritis and certain cardiovascular and digestive conditions (10).
As is a running theme with Om Master Blend though, the dose of himematstake mushroom powder present in the capsules is assured to be far too low to help a customer enjoy most of these effects, if it can produce any at all.
Organic Ashwagandha Extract KSM-66 - 250 MG
Ashwagandha extract comes from the roots of the winter cherry plant.
It is well known to help keep the brain and heart healthy, boost your testosterone levels, fertility, sexual functions, sleep quality, weight loss, physical performance, energy levels, mental clarity, memory, focus, and muscle size and strength, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote normal blood sugar levels (11).
However, with 300 mg being the optimal dose of ashwagandha extract to take in a serving, the 250 mg that Om Master Blend contains is a little on the light side. This means if it is able to produce all or any of these effects, it is unlikely to do so as effectively as it otherwise could.
Om Master Blend is marketed as a mushroom superfood supplement that can benefit the human body both mentally and physically in a variety of ways. However, after conducting our own review it is clear that, while it may provide some mildly useful effects, it is far from the miracle product they make out.
From low ingredient dosages and unproven ingredients to reviews from past users that complain about side effects or a lack of efficacy, there are just too many better mushroom products out there to make OM Master Blend worth buying. That is why we instead recommend you give Nootrum Mushrooms a try.
Nootrum Mushrooms is a great product as it is packed with a combination of beneficial mushrooms that are all clinically proven, organic and present in potent 20:1 and 10:1 extracts. And they're extracts thact actually focus on what matters. Not all compounds in mushrooms are created equally and Noortums are standardized to cover the more useful compounds and designed to be higher in b glucans and specific lectins, polysaccharides and triterpenes making up almost 50% of the product. Keep in mind most competitors are somwhere between 2-20%. [As a result, they continue to be our go tor recommendation. As this ensures that every customer will enjoy the full effects that each mushroom powder can provide in the safest way they possibly can.
