Biofit: Can A Probiotic Supplement Actually Help You Lose Weight?

Biofit Review: Overpromises & Underdelivers

A lot of Biofit Reviews seem positive at first glance and the science itself seems to be quite interesting. But, there's a large catch, these reviews are are largely focused on whether it works or not, rather than if there's a better option. And if the question was, whether Biofit was a good probiotic, then we'd say yes. But, if the question is whether or not it will help you lose weight more efficiently than any other probiotic strains, the answer is not really. And when we compare it to actual weight loss supplements, then it doesn't even come close to being a good option to aid weight loss.

Biofit's probiotic supplements should in theory work, the problem is that the gut microbiome is a relatively small part of the puzzle.

Compared to other weight loss supplements, that do more to suppress appetite and support against cravings like glucomannan and 5htp respectively, the biofit probiotic is relatively ineffective. That said, there's no reason you can't take it as well as a traditional weight loss supplement like instant knockout or hourglass fit, in fact it would stack up very well with these sorts of supplements to support gut health and boost the effects substantially.

In general taking a probiotic supplement is good, and biofit is a good probiotic, the problem is that it isn't really a weight loss aid, and this is really just a marketing gimmick.

If you're looking for something to help you lose weight that isn't a gimmick, we'd recommend trying out hourglass fit first instead. The 5HTP has been proven to work on the brain under MRI to fight cravings [1] and glucomannan swells in the stomach (to about the size of a bagel for 2000mg) making you feel full [2] both of which, unlike biofit, are allowed over the counter and to be used clinically in the US and Europe (who have much stricter codes for making sure supplements actually work before they can make weight loss claims) .

We don't recommend that you buy biofit, get a proper fat burner like hourglass , and a cheaper probiotic instead and you'll have much better effects.

How Does Biofit Work? If It Actually Does

So, the microbiome has been observed to have some effect on weight loss, some of this could simply be correlation and hype, over actually being the direct cause. For example one well known study on the subject took stool samples of the people in their trial who had succesfully lose weight, and those who succeeded did have a more healthy microbiome than those who did not. The catch is people who eat healthier, have healthier microbiomes. And as they didn't make sure all the participants were on the same diet, what they actually proved was that the microbiome reflected the healthier eating choices of the participants. [3]

On the other hand there have been numerous faecal transplant studies which are beginning to show some evidence that the microbiome does impact hunger and craving signals. [4] However, compared to the backing of 5HTP which has been clinically effective for a decade (but only recently available over the counter) it's not even close. And the fact that the microbiome will correct itself with healthy eating, or with pretty much any probiotic supplements not just biofit, there are substantially better options.

Biofit Review FAQ

We answer some of the most commonly asked questions about Biofit Probiotic

Can Biofit Probiotic Help With Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

Arguably yes, particularly if you're sensitive to carbs as one of the bacteria in their probiotic supplement is very effective at creating amylase which breaks down carbs.

Are Biofit Probiotic Pills Safe?

Yes Biofit probiotic is safe, it's just not going to actually help you lose weight.

What's In Biofit?

Biofit has seven probiotic strains, and it is allowed to make the following 3 healthy claims in most countries.

It supports and improves digestive health in children and adults
supports growth of beneficial gut bacteria
promotes growth of healthy gastrointestinal flora
educes total blood cholesterol or blood LDL cholesterol

None of which relate directly to weight loss.As a probiotic however, it's actually quite good, biofit probiotic supplements use an unusual capsule meaning that a higher percentage of the good bacteria actually make their way into the microbiome and survive the stomach acid, in some probiotic supplements only 5% of the bacteria will actually be effective. The types of bacteria in biofit can be broken down into the following types:

Bacillus Subtilis: This is Biofit's proprietary blend DE111. It's been loosely linked to weight loss in a couple of studies, but they're not exactly impartial and the results we're conclusive. So, it's claims as a weight loss probiotic are a little sketchy.

Lactobacillus Rhamnosus: Commonly found in yoghurt, helps regularity.

Lactobacillus Casei: Lactobacillus casei is mostly known for it's ability to survive acidity, making it good for an oral probiotic, but the purpose is sort of defeated by the capsules used by BioFit.

Lactobacillus Plantarum: There's loads of research showing that L. plantarum to gut health. It's quite possibly the most studied, again nothing directly relating it to weight loss though, although there's loads linking it to healthy digestion.

Lactobacillus Acidophilus: The fifth Lactobacillus strain in BioFit, this is probably the probiotic supplement that actually has the best claims in terms of helping weight loss. These probiotic bacteria produce amylase, which breaks down carbs in your gut and digestive tract. This does in theory help regulate blood sugar and potentially help avoid overeating, through snacking within the first hour after meals. Beyond that it's actually really helpful for helping the digestive system prevent bloating after eating carbs. So, for people who struggle with that could also beneift from the biofit probiotic supplement.

Bifidobacterium Longum: Mostly known for helping young people develop healthy microbiomes, it's quite high in breast milk, but again, we're not quite sure why this would help biofit probiotic supplements claim to help you lose weight.

Bifidobacterium Breve: Again it helps improve digestive health, but that's about all this probiotic bacteria has been proven to do, it like most of the ingredients in biofit probiotic is not a weight loss supplement.

Biofit is a well rounded probiotic when it comes to gut health, we're just not entirely sure what allows them to claim that it will help anyone with burning fat, of losing weight in general. Biofit probiotic is fine, it's marketing however, is not.

Biofit Review Conclusion

In short as a probiotic, biofit is good, the problem is the weight loss claims. By marketing itself as a weigh loss supplement, we're judging it as one, and in that case it's a failure. The science is still not fully in on exactly what would need to be done with the microbiome to make serious change, and as far as can be seen there are far more effective supplements on the market to help you lose weight naturally.

When we compare the Biofit probiotic supplement to hourglass fit it loses out every time. If we're judging it as a priobiotic however, biofit is good, but it's far too expensive for what it is. If you're looking for something to help your digestive system, then biofit is fine. But, if you're looking for something to help you lose weight, then don't trust the biofit weight loss claims.
