Hydroxycut is one of the oldest weight loss supplements available in the US. And it shows, so much so that by today's standards we're almost reticent to give it the title of a fat burner. Their lead product Pro Clinical Hydroxycut, is not just dated, it's borderline archaic. Missing out on the most well researched and documented key ingredients like glucomannan makes it a struggle to recommend, and honestly it looks like an expensive well marketed multivitamin rather than a supplement designed specifically to help you lose weight. Hydroxicut hardcore does fair a little better, being slightly newer to the market, as does Hydroxycut Black and the Hydroxycut drinks, but not a whole lot better. And the less said about the gummies the better.
The fact is the weight loss market has long since moved on from the days in which hydroxycut launched and they have made no real attempt to keep up to date in the last decade. It does not hold up well. If you're looking for something that will actually help you lose weight we would recommend that you visit our best fat burners for men list or our best fat burners for women page and get something that contains glucomannan along with some other more modern ingredients. If you want the TLDR, almost all their supplements either do nothing for weight loss or are terrible, with the exception of Hydroxycut Hardcore, which isn't great, when compared against any of the products on our best list, but is passable as a low budget option.
NB: Not to be confused with muscletech's supplement with the same name (you can read our mucletech hydroxycut reviews here).

We'll keep this review short and sweet, if you haven't bought it, don't bother. It's an expensive multivitamin at best. This is a very old fashioned product that is basically trading on it's long established name rather than anything else.
This is going to become a common theme for most of the hydroxycut products that we look at.And we're whilst were not surprised that their trials proved it to be effective against placebo, a multivitamin or simply vitamin d supplementation would've shown the same results for a fraction of the price.
We answer some of the most commonly asked questions about Hydroxycut.
Most of their products won't work to aid weight loss. The hardcore version has some ingredients that will assist, the rest are just multivitamins with weight loss as a marketing ploy.
There shouldn't be any side effects unless you react particularly badly to the caffeine in hydroxycut.
All the same issues of Hydroxycut pro clinical, in an easy to chew gummy treat. Another steaming pile of disingenuously marketed garbage from hydroxycut.
Although to be fair it could well make a good multivitamin. Honestly there's nothing here for weight loss, so we're really not sure how or why they've been given the weight loss marketing angle. Just stay away from them if you're looking to enhance fat burning, or aid weight loss.

Hydroxycut Hardcore is the first of all the hydroxycut supplements that isn't awful. This one could actually help you lose weight. It still misses out on glucomannan (but that is pretty normal for weight loss supplements under $30.
We'd recommend you find the extra $20 and get something that's actually effective from one of our best fat burners lists, but if you're set on something from hydroxycut, then get hardcore, just do not waste your money on pro clinical hydroxycut supplements.
Ok, so finally some progress from hydroxycut products, we've reached the height of late 2000s era weight loss supplements, where at least some research had been done, it's still hugely outdated as a formula, but at least it's something.
Caffeine - caffeine works, not only does it raise NEAT (none exercise activity thermogenesis) but it also supresses appetite. Caffeine has been proven time and time again to support weight loss when consumed as part of a healthy diet. It also supports energy levels when on a low calorie diet.
L-Theanine - This green tea extract is pretty common in weight loss supplements, but it's usually a bulk up ingredient. It's actually more effective as a stress reliever, which isn't a bad thing.
Cayenne Pepper (capsimax) - Cayenne pepper was the buzz ingredient about 10 years ago, and it does seem to have a positive effect on weight loss. It has a mild thermogenic effect (meaning you burn more calories in general through the day, and as such it's quite popular in weight loss supplements).
Yohimbe - The studies on yohimbe seem positive, although relatively unproven, the studies were very small, 20 people or less. So we can't say it's particularly effective at helping people lose weight. It is promising though.
L-Tyrosine, L-Methionine & L-Leucine - These amino acids may have some relation to weight loss, but the science is anecdotal, and needs further study. There isn't really anything to suggest that supplementing these will be particularly effective at helping anyone lose weight.
Also pretty poor, the women's blend at least has prickly pear, a poor mans glucomannan if you will, but it's not terrible. It is a cheaper option which makes sense at hydroxycut's price point.
A lot of hydroxycut reviews are bought and paid for, as you can probably guess our review is not. We don't rate this product at all. Hydroxycut Pro Clinical is a complete disaster of outdated 1990's pseudoscience.
Hydroxycut Hardcore would have been passable 10 to 15 years ago, but doesn't hold up today. It will at least help with weight loss though, which is more than can be said for the multivitamin gummies with the words weight loss slapped on the packet.
